My first job out of school was designing movie posters in LA. You can read a bit about that experience here.
When starting out, what helped me more than anything was digging through the photoshop files of guys who had been making posters for years. I’d like to pay it forward by making available a couple of my own layered Photoshop files in the hopes that someone else may benefit from picking through them. They certainly aren’t doing any good collecting digital dust on my hard drive.
These will be available for the next couple days or so, at which point I’ll take them down. Nothing gold can stay, ponyboys and girls.
So, without further adieu, you can download layered files of the above posters here:
EDIT: Time’s up! Files are no longer available.
Sons of Anarchy Bus Shelter [28.2mb 10.5x15.5” @ 200 dpi]
Shutter Island One Sheet [149.5mb 10.5x15.5” @ 200 dpi]
Note: These are working comps and are not finished pieces. For example, Charlie Hunnam’s hair in the SoA poster is really poorly masked and the Shutter Island poster has a bunch of adjustment layers that are probably contradictory or redundant. The Shutter Island poster made it pretty far down the process, which means there were a lot - a lot - of changes. I just chose these two at random since they may give everyone an idea of how to tackle a couple different looks.
